Into the Bewilderness is about best friends Luis (a bear) and Pablo (a mole). They live a tranquil life in the great outdoors. They engage in friendly banter and bickering and have occasional visits from Bigfoot Ray, who’s always getting lost. Luis often yearns for adventure beyond the woods and wonders about what lies beyond in the ‘Big City’. Is he missing out in some way. Pablo is happy where he is and is suspicious (perhaps scared) of city ways. When Luis receives a surprise invitation and tickets to the city theatre for a production of ‘The Weary Mermaid’, he is keen to go. He offers one of the tickets to several of his woodland friends, but none are keen, referencing their concerns about going to the city. Eventually, Luis persuades Pablo to accompany him. Pablo is equally concerned about leaving their quiet home. Their adventure to the city is packed with incident as they face the realities of the city, both good and bad. Their dialogue throughout is filled with philosophical discussions and quirky observations as they encounter unfamiliar places and characters. The humour is wry, sophisticated and always very funny. Despite some setbacks and a brief falling out, the friends deepen their bond through sharing their city experiences, but both are happy and content as they return to their very own wilderness.
