Description Share Post The Terrible Trio (The Not So Superheroes) Swapna Haddow, illustrated by Minky Stapleton (Scholastic) The Terrible Trio are Zeb the Zebra, Margarine the Penguin and Barry the Lemur. They meet when they join a very long queue of animals who are waiting to be given superpowers. Not only is it a very long line, but they can’t see beyond the huge buffalo and its massive bottom right in front of them. Nevertheless, the new friends eagerly anticipate what sort of power they might be granted. Could they be strength, speed or invisibility? Perhaps the power of flight, or maybe x-ray vision? However, when they finally reach the front of the queue, the Superpower Manager has run out of inspiration. He’s used up the best super powers. The Trio are left disappointed. Marge gets to like hers (making mac ‘n’ cheese) and Barry is content with beautiful handwriting skills. Zeb, however, is aghast. He doesn’t consider being able to merge into the background of a zebra crossing to be any use at all. In fact, he thinks it puts him in danger of being run over! Zeb had grand dreams of making his mark on the world. He begins to plan what he can do to finally get some recognition. What he comes up with, sadly, is fraught with danger. Preventing an evil crocodile from escaping from a high security prison sounds to be very ill-advised, and it is. Surely he can’t do it without his best buddies? The Terrible Trio is great fun and very funny. It’s a most welcome graphic novel for younger readers that will be enjoyed by older children too.
