While attending a lecture from Dr Beluga about Ancient Rome, Splash dreams of travelling back in time for a visit there. After getting into an argument with another penguin, Benji, Splash accepts a challenge. Splash boasts he can travel back to Ancient Rome and bring back a gladiator’s helmet. The more sensible Pablo warns him against the escapade, but is unable to deter him. The scientist inventor of the Timebender machine, Professor O’Brain, doesn’t stand in their way, but offers caution. It’s vitally important that the penguins don’t do anything in earlier times that might disrupt the future. No sooner have the penguins arrived back in time that they get into trouble. Splash is captured by a slave to the emperor who is obsessed with exotic birds. Despite escaping, matters get worse, but an encounter with a giant vulture provides hope. Meanwhile, Pablo is desperately searching for Splash. Somehow, the two end up in the gladiatorial colosseum in a battle to the death.
