Description Share Post Old MacDonald on the Move Philip Ardagh, illustrated by Maria Karipidou (Walker Books) What are you to do when your farm’s falling apart with age? It seems there’s ‘a creak-crack here,/ a creak-crack there./ Here a creak, there a crack,/ everywhere creak-crack.’ There’s a leak in the barn, a ‘moo-drip here- there’ that’s making the cows miserable. This inspires Old MacDonald to book them ‘rooms for two weeks’ in the ‘grand hotel’. However MacDonald’s problems don’t end there! What about the ‘oink-sigh‘ of the piggies’ sty? Then again, what is this farmer’s move when the hen coop blows away? It seems it’s a ‘boo-cluck‘ before the piggies and hens join the cows! However there’s more to follow with a dry creek and starving, thirsty sheep! What a ‘baa-sob’! However, could it be that the Grand Hotel offers this farmer a glimpse of a future? After all, might the farm have had the best of him? Could there be something more within the Grand Hotel that makes the whole farm really happy? Philip Ardagh is a consummate storyteller. What’s more with Old MacDonald on the Move he demonstrates the sort of rhyming skill that has readers laughing out loud, as with his Ribbit Rabbit, for example. We love this book. It’s perfect for reading aloud, participating with, anticipating and enjoying frequently!
