Description Share Post Boy Vs Reality James Fox (Scholastic) Writer James Fox startled readers with his debut The Boy in the Suit. Not only is this novel heartfelt and meaningful but it is truly insightful. Thereafter, this Bookwagoneer was excited to read Boy Vs Reality. We step into Ethan’s world, or rather, we watch. After all, isn’t Ethan’s world that of Meet the Laceys? It seems his family is streamed, so that all their events, interactions, routines are fed to the world, rather like The Truman Show although the Lacey’s life is scripted. This means that although Ethan’s been in the public eye since the moment he was born, his parents are keen that certain parts are edited. These included his anxiety, any snot or dribble, the growing animosity between Ethan and Mason, his elder brother, alongside their parents’ decision to separate. However, all of this is too hard. It seems that Mason’s determined to use Ethan as bait to launch his own online channel, MasonMayhem. Thereafter, Mason’s prepared to set Ethan up, manipulate and embarrass him. It’s not as though Ethan’s not had a fair amount of taunting through his online and real life. A lot of it seems to be from his ‘friend’/ classmate, who shares an online following. In fact, Luna, and her mother Oonagh seem adept at saying nasty things coated within niceness. However, this is beyond taunting and competition. It seems that Ethan’s real life is exploding. What is he to do? To whom can he turn? He’s depended on Fidget his stress toy, alongside calm afternoon visits to Grandad. Then again, there’s his Blue Pencil Case pals, Arlo and Omar. Will they help? Bookwagon loves Boy Vs Reality. We urge readers to step into Ethan’s world.
