It seems this year’s choice is The Wizard of Oz. What’s more, everyone is after a part, especially Nat, who’s seeking Dorothy, the lead role. However, all that Jess’s concerned about is comic club. After all, she has a brilliant idea for the next issue. However, there’s no focus in the club. Even the other members are distracted by the Year 6 production. Then again, while Jess’s happy to be leading the set design, she’s working with Amelia, whom we know from My Best Friend and Other Enemies. How on earth can these two get along? Although they’ve Nat in common, Amelia’s snide comments toward Jess continue. There’s no real ease in their relationship. Yet, could there be a common factor ahead that might unitesthem? Harriet VanDerk, Jess’s supercilious neighbour, who’s affronted to have been appointed as understudy’s understudy? Therefore, she’s determined to take over set design? The drama, melodrama, characters and situations are hilarious and relatable. What’s more, Jess is an honest and engaging narrator, chatty, distracted, selfish at times and altogether lacking in self awareness.
