Description Share Post Pia’s Pet Club: Secret Kitten Serena Patel, illustrated by Emma McCann (Usborne) Pia is obsessed with pets. She knows everything about animals. However, neither her mother nor father will agree to her having one. They feel she’s too young to have responsibility for a pet. Pia would be happy with any kind of pet: a puppy, a kitten, a Guinea pig…even insects! As part of her campaign to change her parents’ minds, she has set up Pia’s Pet Club. The club meets regularly and her friends bring their pets along and they talk about and play with them. Pia enjoys being with her friends in the club, but she still longs for a pet of her own. One day, while running a shopping errand for her Mum, she discovers a kitten hiding under some rubbish outside the shop. She takes home the kitten, who she calls Tiger. She asks her friend Hari what she should do about the kitten and he says she must take Tiger to an animal rescue centre. However, Pia desperately wants to keep Tiger and makes up excuses for not taking Tiger to the centre. Unfortunately, when Tiger turns out to quite naughty, it becomes very difficult for Pia to hide her from her parents. Matters are further complicated by the unexpected arrival of a talking parrot! Serena Patel entranced us with Puppy Problem, the first Pet Club book. This new story is just as charming. We root for Pia in her desire for a pet but worry about her desperation, which has led to compromise and deception.
