Description Share Post The Deadsoul Project The Night House Files 1 Dan Smith (Barrington Stoke) The Deadsoul Project is the first of a new ‘Night House Files’ series by Dan Smith. A derelict and empty tower block Alpine Heights is demolished in 2023. It had previously been abandoned for nearly 50 years, following a highly mysterious public health incident which led to many deaths. The entire incident seems to have been covered up by the authorities. However, a few witnesses and survivors struggle to draw attention to it. The story backtracks to 1977, through the eyes of Kyle and his sister Lauren who live in the tower block. They live with their mother and stepfather Connor, who is in the army. The family have been told that Connor has been killed in action, so Kyle and Lauren are certainly shocked when he turns up in their flat. Soon after, several residents of Alpine Heights become seriously ill. They develop black eyes and misshapen bodies. Furthermore, they have strange puncture wounds on their necks. As Kyle and Lauren strive to uncover the grisly and horrifying truth, they are soon fighting for their very survival. This is a gruesome and chilling story – definitely not for those averse to horror! The story is cleverly told through the use of transcripts from interviews held by a Night House investigator. The atmosphere created is febrile with suspicion and conspiracy and is peopled with spirited characters fighting for their lives.
