After all, she’s unlikely to be taken in by a house made of ‘gingerbread, scones’ and even her ‘favourite, chocolate sponge with rainbow sprinkles’. Then again, the house owner is so welcoming. It seems she’s no ‘nasty witch‘ but, rather, Aunt Waffle! What’s more, she welcomes the trio indoors to keep warm! Then she offers to magic up any treat they choose, ‘any bake, bread, biscuit or bun‘ they might imagine! Is this too good to be true? Might readers be thinking, ‘Oh oh!’ Then again, we know Cleo is smart. She wants to retell this story so there’s a happy ending, one where Hansel and Gretel are safe and reunited with their father! What will she do? Bookwagon loves this series. We suggest that Evgenia Golubeva and Myles McLeod offer such a funny, bright, proactive and enjoyable opportunity to reimagine well known stories alongside Cleo.
