Description Share Post Oh Dear, Look What I Got! Michael Rosen, Helen Oxenbury (Walker Books) Oh Dear, Look What I Got! After all, ‘I went to the shop/ to get me a carrot’ but ‘they gave me…. a parrot’! Then again, what about ‘a hat’? Might it be that you’re given ‘a cat’? However, what about going to the shops for ‘a coat’? Surely, you wouldn’t be given ‘a goat‘! Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury collaborated upon the classic We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. That book’s repetition, shape and sounds make its story line memorable, ripe for recitation and drama. We see similar shapes in more contemporary picture books, including There’s a Tiger on the Train. Thereafter, this title offers the same opportunity. Furthermore, it’s rich with suggestions for prediction. For example, if you go to the shop to buy a cake, could it be that you’ll be handed a S-N-A-K-E? Then again, what if you’re seeking a deer? Surely, you’d not receive a… B – – R? Alongside Michael Rosen’s perfect repeated lines and humorous inclusions, we’ve Helen Oxenbury’s intricate, enticing for discovery, illustrations. This Bookwagoneer loves the growing relationship between the animals. What is going on here? Then again, what about the final confusion? Might it change everything? In fact, might it run into another familiar traditional verse, that concludes with such joy? We are delighted to recommend Oh Dear, Look What I Got!
