Description Share Post Mouse by the Sea A Holiday in Nature Alice Melvin, text by William Snow (Thames & Hudson) It’s summer holiday time. It seems that Mouse’s inspired to by the coastline. Thereafter, once he reaches the first beach, he stops and stares ‘across the sea/ with all [his] summer holiday/ stretched out in front of [him]‘. We join Mouse by the Sea. It seems there are crowds to watch ‘who paddle, bathe and play‘. Then again, there are piers to stroll. Meanwhile, there are storms to take shelter from alongside dunes in which to nestle during sunny afternoons. Furthermore there is the beach to explore. What about the ‘pretty pebbles, driftwood, feathers, shells….‘ alongside ‘changing textures, sights and sounds and smells’. Alice Melvin entrances readers with her glorious picture books that seem to indulge our need to experience travels and experiences. Thereafter we consider her Mouse’s Wood, for example. Then again, what about our solo traveller? He watches the fishing boats and joins those alongside the harbourside. Thereafter, he leaves the beach for ‘an exciting trip‘ out to sea, where ‘white waves spray- faces‘ and ‘gannets dive and screech‘. There are rock pools to explore, seals to watch and buns to eat. The again, there are lighthouses to visit. What a journey! In fact, we take this journey too. it seems every page is a discovery, with additional treats included through the fold outs, lift ups and peep through pieces. This means that Mouse by the Sea is a triumph, an utter wonder. Bookwagon loves this book, and its series. Furthermore, we recommend it highly to every picture book loving reader.
