Meredith and Macy’s mother is the manager of the Ivy Hotel. The family live there too, and love their surroundings, from the guests who reside permanently to staff like doorman Bob, Jerome the chef, and Jake, his sous chef, who teaches Meredith dishes to prepare for their weary mother to eat. Their mother is more weary as it seems as though the new owners are tempted to sell the Ivy. They’re certainly investigating every nook, every cranny, every possible error, looking for things that might force their hands. What’s more, it seems as though somebody on site is trying to damage the girls’ mother’s reputation, alongside the traditions and good name of the Ivy Hotel. It becomes even worse when there’s a murder. What’s more, somehow, it’s linked to Jake, and his foraging skills. Yet Meredith and Macy know better. Somehow, they’re certain it’s to do with number 12 Ivy Square North and a gentleman Macy had spoken to at the duck pond. How is he connected to the Ivy? To Sally and then Agatha? Bookwagon loves the careful pace, the knowing characterisations and the setting which Emily Hourican creates so skilfully that we can almost see through the doors that Bob opens for us to enter. We are so excited to share Murder at the Ivy Hotel with our readers.
